Brady Boy

Little Brady, oh how we love you so!

He is the youngest of our three children. He is adorable and so cool (as Andy likes to say!) He loves balls, cars, the park, animals, the I-touch, the Wii, the girls, Jimmy (his brother), and of course, his momma.

In the morning, he comes into our bedroom and says, "Mama, the sun is up! I want juice. Juice mama. Juice. I want to go downstairs. I want breakfast. Juice, mom, juice!" He does not quit asking until he gets his drink. Usually, Andy rolls over and gets him juice to buy us another 30 minutes in bed. Then he climbs up and says, "I wanna snuggle, mama. I love you!" He is so stinking cute...demanding, yes, but also very affectionate and loving.

He is also obsessed with electronics. He truly believes the I-touch is his computer. He loves to play with the TomCat app, the game Angry Bird and Cut the Rope, and listen to music on Pandora. He will even hit the thumbs up button on the I-touch when he likes a song.

Strep Throat will you please, please, please stop rearing your ugly head

Isabel has had strep throat four times in the last six months...is it me or does this seem like a lot?

Dear Strep Throat,

You really are not a very nice bacterial infection. You keep visiting poor little Isabel, and of course, not at the most convenient times. The first time you came it was the weekend of Katie Tills big communion party with beautiful weather, catered food, lots of friends, a moonbounce, and live music just across the street. Isabel sat in the driveway with a sore throat listening to the live music and watching guests come and go. She was devastated. She did her part and took the Amoxicillin twice a day for 10 days straight. This seemed to send you away.

The summer came and we did not hear from you! How nice.

Then school starts and bam! you are back. Cool, an opportunity to miss a day of school one might think? But, oh no....when do you show up, but a day before the Jewish holiday. Of course, the rule is 24 hours on antibiotics and one can return to school. You didn't even give Isabel a day home from school. Again she returns to the Amoxicillin twice a day for 10 days and again you go away.

Why do you love to hang out in the nose and throat of Isabel? Can't you find someone else to pick on?

Well, the weather starts getting cooler and the kids are getting excited for Halloween. There is so much to look forward to with Halloween parties, trick-or-treating, school parades, and classroom parties. On October 29th, Isabel starts to complain of sore throat, stomach pain, and is uncomfortable. Off to Kids First for another round of antibiotics.

Isabel cries for a couple of reasons. First, she hates getting her throat swabbed. In fact, it usually requires a couple of people to restrain her making the whole experience very unpleasant. Second, she is angry that she will miss pumpkin decorating, her parade, and the classroom party. The doctor recommends giving her a double dose of medicine the first night, another dose the next morning, and then bringing her into school around lunchtime. You go away (at least we think)!

Now it is December and guess who comes knocking on Isabel's door....her trusty friend, Mr. Strep Throat. Antibiotics for another 10 days. Ugh! Now this is getting annoying.

2010 is over and we start a New Year! Knock! Knock! Knock! Guess who? We know strep throat... you have come to take residence in the mouth of Isabel bringing with you all of the usual unpleasant things - redness, swollen glands, upset stomach, and difficulty swallowing. Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. This time the doctor prescribes 20 days of Amoxicillin and requests Isabel be swabbed after she completes her meds. In the car, she said, "Mom, don't worry, I know I have to cancel my playdate with Catherine. It's okay I am used to it." Sigh.

We are going to get to the bottom of this strep throat and figure out how to get rid of you! Can you suggest a way I might resolve this situation? I know everyone gets sick and do not ask for Isabel to always be spared, but let's be reasonable with the number of times she gets infected in a six month period.

Truly,

Jenn (mom)

Lots happening in the New Year

Already there have been lots of things happening in 2011...Isabel moves back to St. Annie's, Chloe loses her 2nd tooth, and Brady is beginning to use the potty!

Isabel had been unhappy at Culbertson; it was not a good fit. She made lots of friends, but never made a connection with her teacher, Mrs. Lebo. Just before Christmas break I told Isabel she could move back to St. Annie's if that would make her happier. She told me she wanted to think about it. I told her that was a good idea as it is a big decision. She asked when she needed to make her decision. I told her if she wanted to start after the Christmas break she would have to let me know the next morning. She quickly blurted she wanted to change schools. The next day we went to St. Annie's to register and meet her teacher, Mrs. Hofmann. The teacher was so sweet telling the students that she had an early Christmas present for all of them...Isabel would be returning after the holiday. The kids got so excited, a few girls even ran up and hugged Isabel. She was glowing. She just finished her first week and loves, loves, loves 1st grade! Finally.

Chloe had her grandpa pull her first tooth and found that experience to be rather unpleasant. This go round she decided to let the tooth fall out on its own. The tooth had been ready for awhile, but she was not going to be persuaded this time. Just last Sunday, January 2nd, the tooth was dangling by a thread and she refused to let daddy tug at the tooth. The girls decided to play in the basement and moments later they came running upstairs yelling that the tooth had fallen out! The only trouble was they had no idea where it fell out. Daddy got his flash light and we searched the basement with no luck! Daddy suggested that maybe Chloe had swallowed it. We all came upstairs and there on the kitchen floor was the lost tooth! Chloe scooped it up and raced it up to her bedroom and slipped it under her pillow. She was so excited to have a visit from the toothfairy!

Brady is beginning to use the potty! I have taught him to sit on the seat, while Andy is encouraging him to stand-up. The only trouble with standing is the occasional bad aim. It is no fun wiping pee off the walls and the back of the toilet seat! The most amazing part is that he is staying dry most nights. I hope we won't be buying diapers (for Brady at least) much longer.
